Wilkes-Barre Gaurdian Angels

The Guardian Angels is a national organization founded in 1979 in New York City. It was founded by Curtis Sliwa who saw a need for a step above a neighborhood watch. Now there are over 144 chapters world-wide with several thousand volunteers. The Guardian Angels were endorsed by Mayor Rudy Giuliani for helping turn around New York City by patrolling subways and city streets and reducing crime to where it is today.
The philosophy of the Guardian Angels is to prevent and deter criminal activities, crime prevention education and promote community pride. The Guardian Angels have had a major impact on public safety in local cities such as New York, Baltimore, York and Washington DC. The structure of Guardian Angels works as that they are trained uniformed civilians, that are trained in self-defense, CPR, first-aid and conflict resolution at the same time as being a strong visual deterrent.
