The Village was founded in 1815 by settlers from the state
of Maine. During its infancy,
the Village was called Yankeetown. Around 1821, the name Maineville
began to be used by the local BaptistChurch to identify the growing
village and to pay tribute to the original settlers In early 1850, a
survey was completed and accepted by Silas Dudley and Seth G. Tufts that
created the current boundaries. On March 23, 1850, an act to incorporate the Village was
drawn up and passed by the General Assembly. This made Maineville the
only incorporated Village within HamiltonTownship until the late 1990's when
the Village of South
Lebanon and the City of Loveland
annexed property on the north and south ends of the township respectfully..
