About Us:

In fall 2000, The University System of Maryland (USM) introduced a new concept in advanced higher education. This was the beginning of the Universities at Shady Grove (USG). Since its inception in 2000, USG has been transformed from a location for part-time evening instruction into a vibrant center serving more than 3,650 undergraduate and graduate students. As an innovative partnership of nine USM universities, USG is able to offer more than 60 of the best and most popular degree programs from across the state on one convenient, state-of-the-art campus in Montgomery County. Students enroll in the university that offers the degree program they want, and they receive their degree from that university.

A unique kind of learning community, USG is designed for students who are professionally focused and want to fast track their degree. Everything about USG is aimed at helping students complete their degree and advance their career. With degree and certificate programs available on a flexible full-time, part-time, evening and weekend basis, USG students are able to complete their education in a cost-effective and timely manner close to home. Students also find the supportive environment they need to succeed, with help readily available at USG's Center for Academic Success; the Career and Internship Center; and the new Priddy Library.

Input from our many partners in business, government, healthcare and education allow USG to continually monitor workforce needs and incorporate new programs to meet growing demand. USG is committed to working closely with our schools, local community colleges, the wider community and our nine university partners to provide the region with the best prepared workforce possible and assure our students successful and rewarding careers after graduation.
