The Town of Rush posseses a unique rural character among the nineteen towns which comprise Monroe County, New York. Rush is predominantly a surburban, commuter community of the Greater Rochester Area. The Town of Rush was named and established by the State Legislature on March 13, 1818. Some have claimed that Rush was named for the rushes that grew so thickly along its waterways, others say that it was Richard Rush, an American Statesman.
