Gouldsboro is made up of five (5) unique villages; Prospect Harbor, Birch Harbor, Corea, South Gouldsboro and Gouldsboro.

The Town Office is the hub of Gouldsboro's town government-we will be happy to give you information or direct you to the right person to obtain answers. We are open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 8:00AM - 4:00PM and Wednesday from 8:00AM - 6:00PM. We are located on Rt. 186, Main Street in Prospect Harbor next door to the Fire Station.

The Town Office contains land records from the 1800's and records of births, marriages and deaths. We issue marriage licenses, register voters, register dogs, renew motor vehicle, ATV, boat, and trailer registrations. Our town is also equipped to do new registrations for all of the above. We also issue hunting and fishing licenses (residents only) and shellfish licenses (residents & nonresidents).

The Town has a monthly newsletter that should reach your home early each month.

The Town has curbside pick-up of trash every Wednesday and curbside pick-up of recyclable is every first and third wednesday of the month. We ask that both are put out by 7 AM. The Town now has a transfer station for bulky waste/construction debris opened to residents. A sticker may be purchased at the Town Office for $1.00. Hours are: Friday 1:00 - 5:00PM and Sunday 10:00 - 5:00PM.

The Town Meeting is the third Tuesday in June. Voting is done the day before. Stop by the office and pick up a copy of the Town Report.

The Town has a Barking Dog Ordinance, copies available at the Town Office. To register your dog, bring the latest rabies certificate and a certification of spayed/neutered, if applicable. The cost is $7.50 and $4.00 for neutered dogs. If you have a problem with a dog contact the Police Department.

The Town has Shoreland, Land Use, and Subdivision Ordinances. Permits are required for any subdivision of land or construction of any building. Driveway permits are required. A copy of any ordinance is available at the Town Office.

The Town has its own elementary school that houses kindergarten through eighth grade. All high school students go to Sumner High School in Sullivan.

The Treasurer's & Tax Collector's Offices are also located in the Town Office Building. They handle the billing and collection of all taxes.

Our property tax year is April 1st - March 31st. Our fiscal year is July 1st - June 30th. Tax bills are mailed in September which include two coupons, and are due: October 31st (1st coupon) and March 31st (2nd coupon). Interest begins the day after due dates: November 1st and April 1st. If you escrow your taxes, you must provide your mortgage holder with the tax bill or a copy.

Effective April 1, 2003, contractors and commercial users will be charged $40 per load (pickup or small trailer) for construction debris, and $20 per load for clean wood and scrap metals at the transfer station. Also, effective April 1, 2003, all residents will be charged an annual fee of $5 to use the transfer station, and $15 for refrigerators.
