The Cowan Pottery Museum Associates


Mission Statement:
The Cowan Pottery Museum Associates mission is to actively enhance and maintain the heritage of Cowan Pottery by preserving the tradition of creative vision and excellence in American Art Pottery as demonstrated by R. Guy Cowan.

Our function is to strive to enlarge and enhance the sphere of influence of Cowan Pottery by participating and/or sponsoring related activities.

The Cowan Pottery Museum Associates, established in 1996, as an independent non-profit organization, headquartered in northeastern Ohio, is affiliated with The Cowan Pottery Museum of the Rocky River Public Library and offers assistance to the Museum and its activities.

Presently, our group is comprised of over 120 pottery collectors, dealers and enthusiasts who are bound together by our desire to promote and preserve the work of R. Guy Cowan and other American Art Pottery concerns.

Activities:
1) Promoting nationwide awareness of the work of R. Guy Cowan, Cowan Pottery, and other artists that worked at Cowan Pottery by developing and maintaining our own website.

2) Assisting and supplementing the Cowan Pottery Museum, its collection, archives, and activities as headquarters for Cowan Pottery.

3) Develop programs featuring the accomplishments of R. Guy Cowan, by making donations to museums and other non-profit organizations who wish to include works of Cowan Pottery in their collections.

4) Organizing events, such as public lectures, pottery auctions and shows, etc. designed to bring visitors to the Greater Cleveland area, including Rocky River and the Cowan Pottery Museum.

5) Creating and funding a scholarship program, in the name of R. Guy Cowan, at an appropriate institution(s) for worthy students in art and/or ceramics.

6) Educating collectors and dealers about Cowan Pottery, market values, reproductions, and other collector issues.

7) Visiting collections of Cowan Pottery, museum exhibitions, pottery shows, and other art pottery events.

8) Developing relationships with other Art and Pottery organizations.
