History of St. John's School :

St. John's School was founded as St. John's Christian School in 1980. It was a ministry of St. John's Episcopal Church. In those days it was described as "the little country school on the edge of town". Enrollment in the first year was 15-20 students in Pre-School and Kindergarten. Mrs. Patricia Rhoades was the school's first principal.

In 1986 the Vestry of the church had to face the decision as to whether to
continue the school. With enrollment at 27 students they elected to continue the school.
The decision proved to be a good one and the school moved into four
classrooms in the church's Parish Hall - Zannon Hall.

Additional students and classrooms were added in the early 90's and the issue of space for the school began to present itself as a problem for both the school and the church. By 1994 the school enrolled more than 100 students and two more classrooms were added in a portable building.

In 1999, as a result of parent request, the seventh and eighth grades were added and enrollment grew to 200 students. Five additional classrooms had been built into Zannon Hall.

At this time discussion began about a new facility for the school on its present campus but it soon became clear that the present location would not allow a new building to be built that would meet enrollment and building code requirements.

An alternative presented it self when WestPark and Signature Properties
generously responded to a request for 10 acres of land for the church and the in their new development on Fiddyment Road.

The process of approval for the development was delayed over environmental concerns but eventually the church and school received title to their new property on St. Patrick's Day 2006.

Dan Cook and Associates have been hired as architects and the school is
currently planning a 72,000 square foot facility that will house 550 students in Pre-School through eighth grade with the goal of being on the new campus in the fall of 2008. Additional land is being sought that will allow for development of a high school which will serve the same mission of providing a superior education that develops the whole child in a Christian environment.
