Spartanburg Methodist College is a two-year private residential institution within the United Methodist Connection.  At SMC, lives are transformed in a values-oriented, student-centered atmosphere in the Christian tradition that encourages academic excellence, intellectual exploration, social awareness, and character development within the liberal arts tradition.

Vision:

Spartanburg Methodist College will be the college of choice for residential or commuting students who desire the advantages of a church-related education. We will offer motivated students a liberal arts education in preparation for the senior college experience and lifelong learning through relevant and challenging academic programs, campus leadership opportunities, and strong athletic programs. We will do this in an environment of community and caring, where each student is respected as an individual with unique needs and is encouraged to achieve his or her fullest potential.

About Us:

Since 1911, Spartanburg Methodist College has led the way in innovation in higher education. Early in our history, we launched the first cooperative education program in the country, and today we are South Carolina’s only two-year, independent, residential college. We care deeply about our students and their dreams and we are dedicated to creating a robust learning environment for everyone.

Small class sizes and a talented faculty and staff enable our students to excel in the classroom and pave the way for trouble-free transfer to senior institutions or immediate entry into the job market. Opportunities for extra-curricular activities that engage students’ diverse talents and interests are readily available. Whether we are a final destination or a crossroads of transfer, we prepare students well for what lies ahead.

With a faculty and staff who care intensely about our students’ success, SMC is committed to making dreams come true. Our close knit community is there at every turn to provide support so students can flourish. Our 110-acre, beautifully wooded campus located in Spartanburg, South Carolina, is friendly and welcoming. We are a strong, close-knit community with openness – to people, ideas, and differences. At the center of it all are our people who are dedicated to creating a robust educational environment where students can learn and grow to be the best version of themselves that they can be. Our campus ministry program offers students the opportunity to celebrate their faith through our campus worship services, activities, and service opportunities.  In addition, numerous organizations provide opportunities for students to get involved and serve others.
