Southern Academy is committed to providing the opportunity for students to receive a well-rounded education. College preparatory and general curriculum courses are offered. The school is accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association; therefore the school meets the standards declared to be necessary for a quality education.

We hope to accomplish our mission through the use of the following concepts:

2. Offering curriculums that are flexible and will allow students to maximize their potential;

3. Providing and educational setting that is safe, clean, secure, attractive and conducive to learning and teaching;

4. Reinforcing and recognizing students in a positive way in all areas of school life;

5. Encouraging parental and community involvement.

History:

Southern Academy was founded in 1965 in Greensboro, Alabama as a private non-profit educational institution for the purpose of providing quality elementary and secondary education to children of this area.

The historic old Southern University building and grounds were acquired the building was renovated and the school opened that year with an enrollment of 100 in grades one through twelve.

On Sunday May 27 1973, just minutes after the traditional Baccalaureate Service at the school the historic old building that had weathered war and reconstruction was completely destroyed by one of the worst tornados in the State's history. Everything was lost except the spirit to maintain the school. Through labors of parents and friends a new school building major additions followed in 1978.

Accredited by the Alabama Independent School Association since 1975, the school offers a full academic program including day care, nursery, kindergarten, both general and college preparatory curriculum in high school and a complete athletic program. Of 12 AISA schools inspected for accreditation in 1988-89, Southern Academy was only one approved for a maximum 3 year period.

Over the years Southern Academy has steadily grown and improved it's program rising to a place of prominence and respect in private education in Alabama.
