General Information

The City of Pleasantville is located in southeastern New Jersey, six miles west of Atlantic City's Boardwalk and beaches. Although located within traveling proximity to New York, Philadelphia, and Washington, DC, Pleasantville maintains a "small town" atmosphere with nearby oceanfront’s, bay areas, malls, a convenient downtown with shops, restaurants and stores, and neighborhood parks and sports program. Pleasantville Public Schools district is a PreK-3 - 12 school system, consisting of four elementary schools, PreK-3 thru Grade 5; the Middle School of Pleasantville, Grades 6 thru 8; Pleasantville High School, Grades 9 thru 12, and the Gray Hound Academy, Grades 6 thru 12. South Main Street Elementary School services approximately 525 of the 3,700 students that attend school throughout the district.

We have a vibrant multiracial and multiethnic community that contributes to our awareness and appreciation of social harmony and world peace. Our student makeup is 64% Black, 32% Hispanic, 3% White, 1% Asian/Pacific Islander, .08% American Indian, Alaskan Native, .05% other nationalities. Throughout the school year we try to focus on and celebrate our heritage and culture because we believe that children are more confidence of themselves and have more self-esteem when they are aware of and are able to be proud their heritage. We celebrate Hispanic Heritage in October, Black History in February, and, throughout the school year, invite our parents from West Indian and Asian countries to share their life experiences.
