Social Circle is a historic town located fifty miles east of Atlanta, Georgia and thirty miles west of the University of Georgia in Athens. It is situated in a rural section of south Walton County. The town was incorporated in 1832.

Legend has it that stagecoach drivers would stop to water their horses and the friendly gathering around the well became known as a social circle. The community, lying in the heart of old Georgia plantation land, is comprised of history ranging from the settlement of the Creek Indians to rebuilding the town after the Civil War.

Today the Social Circle City government and school officials work closely together to provide the necessary leadership and resources for funding our independent school system.
