About Us
Shaffer Elementary School is a rural one-campus school district located about 17 miles east of Susanville in beautiful Lassen County, California. We are currently serving approximately 350 students in kindergarten through eighth grade. We have a new middle school building with an outstanding computer and science lab facility unrivaled in Northeastern California.
To signal our commitment to quality education, we worked hard to achieve the Governor's Performance Award for improved API scores during the 2000/01 school year. In 2003 we improved 36 points on our API score and another 28 points in 2004 for a 716 API. After a slight drop in 2005, we worked hard to achieve our highest API score to date, climbing to 720.
We were the only school in Northeastern California to receive the competitively awarded Technology Literacy Program grant and our students have won state writing awards the past three years. Shaffer Elementary School has also participated in the Intel Teach To The Future Program with support from Microsoft. Shaffer Elementary places a high priority on citizenship and character development, and is proud to participate in the nation-wide "Character Counts" curriculum for all grades.
