The Purpose Of Education

Community Unit School District No. 2 provides its students fundamental, yet broad educational opportunity. The district enjoys a fine reputation that is the result of hard work and dedication to excellence by the professional and non-professional staff, board of education, PTO, parents and all others associated with the school district. It is our pledge to maintain the high quality of education that currently exists here.

We live in a complex and rapidly changing society. The young people who leave our schools need to have a thorough knowledge of fundamental skills and a wide experiential base beyond the basics. Students are the most important ingredient in education. Students should be challenged and motivated by their lessons and should enjoy success. Students should be creatively stimulated and encouraged to strive to be the best they can be.

Education in Unit No. 2 is the beginning of lifelong learning for the young people who attend. Allow the students to develop a positive self-image, self-discipline and control, respect for themselves and others, and self-motivation, and the students will become lifelong learners. It is our hope, and our goal, that all students at Community Unit No. 2 become lifelong learners.

Briefly, then, our mission is to cultivate students’ abilities to live well; as functioning members of society, as informed citizens of the community and the country, as responsible members of families, and as self-directed, lifelong learners in an ever-changing world.
