Statement of Faith

Sebastopol Christian Church began in 1963 with the goal of serving Sonoma County and the world. By the grace of God, we continue to follow Jesus and are rooted in His love. Our beliefs are simply derived from the Bible and have been the major tenants of the Christian faith for thousands of years.

GOD: We believe in one God, Creator of all things, merciful, holy, and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Jesus Christ, fully human and fully God, was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, died a sacrificial death then rose from the grave, and is alive in heaven now. We look forward to His personal return. The Holy Spirit indwells, brings joy, guides, and empowers us in everything including acts of service and expressing our faith.

SALVATION: We believe that God loves all people and created us in His image. Unfortunately, everyone has rebelled against God and our sin separates us from God. Because of His grace, God sent His Son Jesus to redeem us and pay the full price for our sins. We can have peace with God now and an eternal relationship with God when we put our trust in Jesus. We can’t earn our way to heaven, but Jesus’ death and resurrection is the sole basis for our forgiveness by God who wants all people to receive His undeserved gift of salvation.

THE BIBLE: We believe that the whole Bible is inspired by God. The Bible is the Word of God, and every word in the Scriptures is therefore entirely true and reliable. The Scriptures are a gift to us as God personally communicates His wisdom, authority, and love.

MISSION: We believe that it is a privilege to follow Jesus and bring God as much glory as possible. We desire to be authentic, unselfish, caring, and changing so we will become more like Jesus. With the strength God gives, we strive to grow in our faith through prayer, baptism, communion, serving our community and world, life groups, studying and applying God’s Word, Sunday services, and using our resources to help people. Our prayer is that everyone has the opportunity to put their trust in Jesus and grow in their faith.
