Under the direction of Rev. J.N. Lenker, D.D. the work was begun to establish the first English Lutheran church in Grand Island in the fall of 1882. The first service was held on October 15, 1882 at the court house in Grand Island. The Sunday School was organized on November 19, 1882. Through the history of the congregation, we have been served by 15 pastors and have held worship services in three locations including the courthouse, the former church building at 2nd & Cedar and the current facility at 1515 S. Harrison. The initial membership of 34 adult members St. Pauls has grown to a current membership of 1900. A member of the Nebraska Synod - Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, the congregation has continued to share the love of God through a variety of worship, educational and spiritual growth opportunities for residents in Grand Island and the surrounding area for over 120 years.
