About Us:

Russell Elementary School, part of the Westfield Public Schools, is a kindergarten to grade 5 school located at 155 Highland Avenue in Russell, Massachusetts. We are fortunate to be located in a magnificent setting with a panoramic view of Shatterack Mountain.

While we are no longer on the campus of Westfield State University, we still enjoy a connection with the University’s education department. Pre-service teachers are still welcome coming to us for their pre-practicum work and student teaching.

Here at Russell Elementary School we believe that a school is so much more than a building – it is a home for approximately 200 children and 30 adults working and learning together. We strive to create a climate where children learn to believe in themselves, take risks, accept challenges and grow as thinkers, listeners, speakers, readers, writers and mathematical thinkers. Our staff is committed to excellence and works together as a team to meet the diverse needs of each and every child.

During the past two years, along with all of the elementary schools in the District, we have been implementing our PBIS initiative. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports. While we are no longer we are connected to the University we still identify with their Owl mascot, therefore we give a “HOOT” an acronym that stands for Helping Ourselves Others and The School. Expect to hear your child talking about how he or she gave a HOOT in school this year!

At Russell Elementary we work together to develop a community where all members feel safe, respected, supported and connected to others. We believe that a strong home/school partnership is crucial to the success and encourage you to be involved. Please stay in touch!
