History
This year - 2006- marks 87 years since the founding of the Sturgis Rotary Club. According to early club history, it was late in the year 1917 that William A. Cavin and Frank W. Wait were appointed by Rotary International as chairman of the organizing committee. They were advised to make "careful selection in order to get high quality men, men whose ideals were as high as those of Rotary." After months of careful planning and work, charter members were selected, and the first meeting of the Sturgis Rotary Club was held on the evening of June 26, 1919. This meeting was in all probability was is now known as "Charter-night." The Club began its official existence on July 1, 1919, when it became the 537th club to be issued its charter by Rotary International Mr. C.W. Kirsch served as its first President.
