Rotary Club Of Cedar Hill
Mission Statement:
Business and professional leaders of the community united together to make a difference in Cedar Hill and the world.
History:
The Rotary Club of Cedar Hill was the result of a membership growth project initiated by the Rotary Club of Duncanville in the winter of 2002. A handful of interested Cedar Hill business people were recruited by senior Duncanville Rotarian and past District Governor Herb Kamm. With the aid of other seasoned Rotarians, Herb taught the group about Rotary and what it could offer them in the way of comaraderie and to the community-at-large.
Interest grew as the word spread about this new (to Cedar Hill) service organization. In June of 2003 the group reached the required number of members to charter, and the work of organizing began. The only members of the new club with past Rotary experience were Jon Williamson, DDS, who served as the club's first formal president, and Alan Sims, Cedar Hill City Manager, who served during the charter year as president-elect.
The Cedar Hill Rotary is a diverse group of local business people who have taken hold of the essence of Rotary service to the extent that the club has earned the right to display the coveted District 5810 Award Banners every year since 2004.
From charter date in June of 2003 to now, the club raised over $7,000 for the Cedar Hill Food Pantry, contributed $2,000 to the city library, raised enough money through donations and contributions to buy 40 wheelchairs for the needy both locally and abroad, is sponsoring a room at the Bridges Safehouse for abused spouses and children, purchased needed school supplies for the little yellow schoolhouse in Isla Mujeres, Mexico and for Cedar Hill children in-need, regularly sends Cedar Hill high school students to the District sponsored Rotary Youth Leadership camp, and buys Christmas gifts for in-need Cedar Hill children each year.
