Romeo Peach Festival

About:

The Romeo Peach Festival started back in 1931.

The Romeo Peach Festival is the second oldest festival in the state. Our young village president, Edward E. Jacob along with the orchards in the area felt the need to promote the economic growth of the area.

What started with two contestants from the counties of Macomb, Oakland, St. Clair, Lapeer and Genesee and along with our own Miss Romeo, the Peach Queen Pageant took shape. For several years, all the girls, 11, would be part of the Peach Queen Court and ride on huge floats decorated with flowers. Hence, the Floral Parade got its name. A Juvenile Parade was added to have the local and surrounding area children participate, usually having a theme. A Mummers Parade was added to bring fun and excitement for all to see.

Yes, events have been taken away and new added as the years went by. ThenMiss Romeo pageants ran from 1931 through 1973 and Miss Romeo became the ambassador for our Village during the festivities.  Three of our own became the Peach Queen: 1937 Lois Beal, 1939 Nancy Barber, and 1964 Pamela Cumming.

Every Labor Day weekend, Romeo hosts many events based around its prized crop, the peach. Events include parades, bed races, craft shows, and much more. It’s fun for the whole family.
