Rocky Face Baptist Church

1544 Rocky Face Railroad Street
706-226-5751

History :

The church was organized in 1873 in a building on the site of the old Rocky Face school. The building served as a place for school and a place of worship for both Baptist and Methodist denominations. This building burned and the two churches moved their place of worship to an old log house, where the Hamp Russell home stood. The memberships decided to build a community church. Each man in the community furnished a log, some two. This new church was built on the site of the present Rocky Face Baptist Church, about 1883.

In 1914, the first unit of the present brick veneer building was built. Later, a two-story Sunday School annex was built and the auditorium was lengthened. In 1995, an addition was built to the front of the building and a bell tower added. The present auditorium was added in 1974. The interior of both the old auditorium, now called the Chapel, and the present auditorium (Sanctuary) were remodeled in 1997-98.
