Retta Baptist Church Of Burleson

13201 Rendon Road
817-473-6136

Retta's original place of worship was under a brush arbor built on the southwest corner of the existing property which was one acre of land sold by Mr. J.A. Davis for $1.00 on September 12, 1914. That brush arbor was soon replaced by a tabernacle, but was rebuilt each spring for several years for outside services and revivals. The Tabernacle was built in May, 1915 at a cost of $207.35. It had air pump lanterns for light and was heated by a wood stove.

Retta met only one weekend per month until December 1930, at which time they started meeting two weekends per month. Weekly services were started in 1938. People came in wagons and buggies and would bring quilts to put on the ground where children could sleep during the all day singings. People who were saved were baptized either in Village Creek or a member's stock tank.
