History of Quasqueton:

Quasqueton, the oldest town in Buchanan County, was first settled in 1842. The name was originally Quasquetuk named by the Indians that lived on the west side of the river. It means "swift running water". At this point on the river is where several Indian trails converged to ford the river. A flourmill was built by William Bennett in 1842 and this was located were today's dam is built. The first dam was a wooden dam. The first Post Office was established in 1842 with William Richards as the first Postmaster. The county made the smaller dam below the milldam when the old Iron Bridge was torn down. The dam is made up of old piling and rocks from the old bridge

We have mostly cottage industry with a large farming community that claims us too. But the people of Quasky and the Wapsi River are our biggest asset so come and visit us for a weekend. Camp, fish, visit our local sites and maybe you'll decide to stay.
