Volunteer Opportunities:

What may seem to be a minor part of your routine may be the single event that touches the life of another.

At Preferred Hospice, we are currently looking for Friendly Visitor volunteers to share hobbies as well as provide companionship and emotional support to our patients at Jonesburg Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jonesburg, MO. Preferred Hospice Volunteers are well- trained individuals providing additional support to patients and families. This support can be demonstrated in assisting patients and families with time for their personal needs such as physician visits, errands and companionship.

Any time that you can spend talking and interacting with a patient makes a huge difference. Volunteer opportunities include: direct patient visits, special occasion visits, running errands for patients and their families, arts and crafts, reading, playing games, cards, music as well as other special skills and talents you would like to offer and share with patients.

We have very flexible days, hours and times for volunteering depending on your availability. Volunteers are asked to volunteer at least one to two hours a week but are welcome to visit patients and volunteer as much as they would like and are able to. The days, hours and times for volunteering are flexible and up to you. Any time you can contribute is greatly appreciated.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

Must be friendly, personable and outgoing as well as enjoy talking to patients, especially older adults. As for qualifications, volunteers must be 18 years of age or older, must fill out a volunteer application and confidentiality forms, pass background checks and get a tb test at no cost to you. Volunteers are also required to attend a training and orientation to be provided by the Volunteer Coordinator at Preferred Hospice of Northeast Missouri. Volunteers must also provide their own transportation to and from the nursing home to patient visits. They are also required to document their volunteer time and activities through the necessary documentation and paperwork to be provided
by the Volunteer Coordinator.
