Pinetop Country Club

6734 Country Club Drive

History:
Pinetop Country Club is situated on property which was once part of Sitgreaves National Forest before being acquired by Southwest Forest Industries around 1960. After Southwest Forest held the property for a few years, they abandoned their plans to move the McNary lumber operation to these 1,196 acres. The entire acreage was then made available for purchase.

In 1964 the partnership of Bob Fernandez, Glen L. Jones and Frank Crosby obtained an option to purchase this acreage.

Pinetop Country Club was formed in May of 1965 as a private membership equity country club, its purpose being the construction and operation of a golf course and other related recreational facilities.

Malcolm White and Milt Coggins, Sr. joined the partnership of Gray Madison, Les Murray and John Murphy to engineer and construct the 6,458 yard Pinetop Country Club layout in 1965. Carved out of the dense stately Ponderosa Pines that abundantly occupy the area, the course provided both a challenge and a beautiful landscape. Opened 1967, the eighteen hole layout demands accuracy and moderate length off the tee. The emerald fairways and greens are perfectly manicured and cared for daily by Pinetop Country Club's thirty year veteran superintendent Ron Powell and his staff. In addition to the challenging fairways and greens, water and bunkers come into play on several holes, including both finishing holes. The ninth hole plays 357- yards with water along the right side near the green. The eighteenth hole plays a demanding 430- yards slightly uphill with water along the left side near the green.

The majestic landscape surrounding Pinetop Country Club is home to an abundance of wildlife visible during your round of golf. Temperatures in the summer range from the 80's to the 90's, with the mornings and evenings pleasantly cool and enjoyable for a round of golf or social activity.
