The Crawford Depot (ca. 1848) is the home of the Oglethorpe County Chamber of Commerce. Tradition has it that the building was built from the original Lithonia Granite crossties used by the railroad. It is one of the few remaining stone depots built by the Georgia Railroad.

History

Oglethorpe County was founded in 1793 and named for General James Edward Oglethorpe who was the founder of the Colony of Georgia. It is the largest county (in area) in Northeast Georgia.

Oglethorpe County has a rich history and has been home to many leaders including U.S. Representatives, U.S. Senators, Georgia Governors, Georgia Supreme Court Justices and other notables such as Meriwether Lewis, leader of the Lewis and Clarke Expedition.
