About Us:

The primary goal of the North Side School's program is to enable each student to realize full academic and social growth potential. Experience shows that this is best accomplished in a happy, supportive school setting. The core curriculum areas of mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts are presented in a holistic fashion, and go well beyond the New York State curriculum requirements. Themes on issues related to the core areas are introduced and developed by the classroom teacher.

These themes are further enhanced by the school's T.I.M.E. Zone staff where North Side's students are introduced to Technology, Information-Media and Enrichment through several over-arching topics. All children in grades K-4 receive instruction in the core curriculum areas as well as in physical education, art, music, and library.

Special services are available for all students who may need additional support, and include teaching English as a second language, speech, and reading. Instruction is presented in a manner that helps to develop good character, self-awareness, and a sense of self-worth. Academic as well as special area teachers foster aesthetic appreciation. Opportunities for cooperative learning and individual instruction are presented daily, and students are encouraged to be active participants in their own learning. Special assemblies and field trips help to enhance the core curriculum areas. An appreciation of the arts is an important ingredient in the overall development of the children at North Side.

Special select assemblies are presented throughout the year, exposing our children to various art forms including dance and music. All students participate in Lincoln Center workshops, working directly with Lincoln Center artists who conduct the workshops within each of the classrooms. Students and their teachers work with the artists on a specific theme, and the course of study concludes with a major performance on the same theme of study, presented by a group of artists from Lincoln Center.
