Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce

212 West Main Street
724-258-5919

About:

Any chamber is only as strong as its membership and with 170 members, the Monongahela Area Chamber of Commerce continues to be the community's best business advocate.

Formerly know as the Businessmen's Association in years prior to 1943, the chamber was not incorporated until 1958, making it a non-profit organization.

The Chamber works on an annual budget of approximately $32,000 and is financially sound due in part to several on-going fundraising efforts.

Director, Teresa Cypher, who has been with the Chamber for 12 years, works part-time and is the only employee of the Chamber.

Officers include: Tim Bartman, of Bartman, Inc., President; Tom Graney, First Federal Savings Bank, Vice President; and Sandy Davis, Davis Travel Agency, Treasurer.

The organization is run by a board of directors elected from its membership. Members of the board then set policies and procedures for the Chamber.

The Monongahela Rotary Club has worked hand in hand with the Chamber on many community projects over the years: The community bulletin board at PNC plaza, the landscaped medial area at East Main Street, the town clock at the front of City Hall, and most recently, the Rotary Club donated $2,500.00 toward the new snowflake Christmas decorations which made their debut appearance this Christmas season. Thirty-six 5-foot silhouette snowflakes and four Dickens style lighted Christmas characters were purchased at a cost of $10,000.00. All monies used for this project came from hard work, fundraising efforts and membership dues. The Chamber has also worked with the Aquatorium Commission, the Monongahela Historical Society and the Monongahela Area Library. Many businesses from the Monongahela area have been honored with the "Fifty Year Award". This program, which began in 1997, recognizes businesses that have been in operation for 50 or more years. Currently, 14 businesses have been recognized with this prestigious award.

The Chamber also makes monetary donations and pays dues to the following organizations: Mon Valley Progress Council, Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, Monongahela Rotary Club, Monongahela Area Revitalization Corp., Monongahela Area Historical Society, American Red Cross, Junior Achievement of Pennsylvania, local fire departments and local organizations.
