History:

Mitchell School first opened its doors in 1969. The campus' four permanent buildings were originally designed around the "open classroom" concept. Since then, remodeling has created thirty-one self-contained classrooms, offices, cafeteria, and library. Tremendous growth in student population has required the addition of portable buildings.

Mitchell currently educates an entire K-6 student population of 760 students with a staff of 35 teachers. Mitchell houses two of the district's Learning Handicapped Special Day Classes.

The ethnic composition of the student body is predominantly Anglo. However, Mitchell serves an increasing number of diverse cultures each year.Change has been the key word in Mitchell's rich history. Mitchell began as an "open classroom" school, however, classrooms are now self-contained. Modern technology is firmly established at Mitchell School. The District, PTA, and Site Council have cooperated in the purchase of computers and the networking of the school. Every classroom currently has multiple computers. Through a fiber-optic network, all classrooms are linked to electronic mail and the Internet. There is a strong sense of pride, commitment, and caring at Mitchell School.
