About Us

Mission Valley Country Club was founded in 1967 by a small group of golfers looking for a challenging course to play and the camaraderie of Club Members.

The foursome; a banker, an attorney and two salesmen would played together regularly. The only course in the area available to them at the time was Lake Venice Golf Club, which was leased to an operator, and left a lot to be desired.

Over lunch and cocktails at the “19th Hole” at Lake Venice they would complain bitterly about the course conditions and management. They would fantasize about creating a private country club in the area, with a championship layout and facilities to compare with the upscale Clubs that were out of the area. It was really just a dream at the time, and like most dreams, was destined ultimately to fade away. As fate and circumstance would have it, they combined their imagination and considerable sales ability and brought their dream to fruition.

The original course was designed by David Wallace and the greens and bunkers were redesigned by Ted McAnlis in 1997. In 2003 the fairway bunkers were enhanced and modified by John Sandford. In 2004 the Board approved a $1.7 million dollar budget to refurbish and expand the Clubhouse. This project began in August of 2005 and will be completed in November of 2005. There was no assessment to Members which is a testament to the financial stability of the Club and the fiduciary guidance of the Board of Director.

The championship 18 hole, Par 72 golf course and provides golfers with a challenging test of golf. Playing golf at Mission Valley Country Club is more than just playing a beautiful and challenging golf course…, walking our fairways, is a far greater feeling than just playing golf.
