The Melrose Fire Department's mission is to protect the quality of life of the citizens of Melrose through fire suppression, fire prevention, emergency medical services, and educational programs. Our goal is to promote safety, prevent fires and save lives. The Melrose fire department is NOT just a department that responds to structure fires in our community. Our Non-emergency goal is to develop programs which meet the safety needs of our community. Our Fire Prevention Bureau has a comprehensive program for inspecting and monitoring residential and commercial fire safety installations. Fire Prevention duties include building plan review, fire code enforcement and public education. Several grants have been awarded to support our school fire education program targeting Kindergarten through 3rd grade students. This program is called "S.A.F.E.", Student Awareness of Fire Education.
