About

In 1898, the Brinkerhoff School, now Maspeth Town Hall, was built on 72nd Street. The one-and-a-half story wooden schoolhouse was built on land given by the Brinkerhoff Family, early Dutch settlers of Queens Country. The Brinkerhoff School served the newest section of the village of Maspeth until 1932, when its students were transferred to new I.S. 73 built on a nearby site. Twice abandoned, the building fell into a state of deterioration. Concerned citizens, under the leadership of Marge Markey, formed a coalition of private, business and government interests to save the historic structure. Maspeth Town Hall is now a thriving community center providing a variety of services including preschool and toddler groups, cultural and recreational activities, exercise classes, a drama club for teens, Children's Art Classes, After School Programs, Summer Camp, Senior classes in Art, Chair Yoga and Tai Chi and more. Maspeth Town Hall continues to grow due to the love, support, and time given by so many over the past thirty years. We serve families from all ethnic and cultural backgrounds, regardless of their economic status. We are proud of our professional staff and very appreciative of the dedicated volunteers who work together for the good of the community!
