Madison-Morgan Cultural Center

Madison-Morgan Cultural Center
434 South Main Street
706-342-4743

The Madison-Morgan Cultural Center combines a rare treasure of the past with an active commitment to the future. The Center resides in a fine old Romanesque Revival red brick building which was constructed in 1895 as one of the first graded public schools in the South. The original school bell still rings for the many visitors who enjoy the full schedule of exhibitions, performances and other programs throughout the year.

Recipient of numerous awards for the innovative restoration and adaptive reuse of the original historic structure, The Center exemplifies an ongoing community focus on historic preservation. Built by the Board of Education of the City of Madison, the building served as a public school until 1957. In 1958, residents in the community joined together to form the Morgan County Foundation, Inc., to purchase the building and ensure the protection and preservation of the elegant old structure.

Mission Statement:

Our Mission is to enhance cultural education and enjoyment of the arts and humanities for all persons by offering high quality permanent exhibits, temporary exhibits, and performances while preserving our historic building.
