Lansdowne Arts and Music Festival

84 South Lansdowne Avenue

History:

First held in 2003 as the Lansdowne Arts Festival, the Lansdowne Arts and Music Festival gives the many performing and visual artists of Lansdowne the opportunity to share their crafts and talents with a broad audience from throughout the region. The festival, which takes place over a three-day weekend each fall, is the Borough of Lansdowne's premier cultural event.

The Lansdowne Arts and Music Festival was established to promote local artisans in three mediums, art, music and the spoken word. All of the participants either live in Lansdowne or have a historical connection to Lansdowne. The festival is run entirely by volunteers from the community, from the board members to production.

The festival originally grew out of discussion by a group of friends who wanted to do something fun to promote art in Lansdowne. Local musicians soon asked to participate, and with a theater in our town, the spoken word element was also added to the list of events. The "something fun" originally envisioned quickly grew to the point that a three-day event was necessary to include everyone who wished to participate.

After a successful first festival, local organizations such as the Lansdowne Business and Professional Association (LBPA) and the Lansdowne Economic Development Corporation asked to and subsequently did join in with their support of the project.

In recent years, the festival has added a publicity budget and received increased promotion through radio spots, newspaper articles and paid advertisements.
