Kiwanis Club Of Sierra Madre

The Kiwanis Club of Sierra Madre joined the worldwide service organization, Kiwanis International, on October 3, 1927. It is now part of the more than 8,400 individual clubs located in at least 70 countries. The Kiwanis International motto "Serving Children of the World" identifies the major club goal from the top down through the individual clubs. Our purpose is to "Improve the Quality of life for Children and Families Worldwide".

Our members either live or work in the Sierra Madre area, and they are business people, retired business people or concerned citizens wanting to provide community service. We meet once a week for lunch that includes time for fellowship, club business and a program. We have informative speakers who present programs on wide ranging topics encompassing hobbies, social issues, entertainment, local issues, and many others. We also have meetings where we may have an "open forum" to brainstorm possible fundraisers and other club business. The officers and Board of Directors meet at least once a month to conduct routine club business, review plans for fundraising and review requests for support from individuals or other organizations. Dues paid by the members are used for operation of the club. Moneys raised from the fundraising activities are dedicated to community service and cannot be used as part of the clubs operating budget!

One of our largest and most popular fundraisers is our Annual Pancake Breakfast in September. Another popular one is selling pizza and soft drinks in Memorial Park during the 4th of July celebration. In the past we have provided chicken dinners with the proceeds supporting Lizzie's Trail Inn and Sierra Madre Historical and Preservation Society. We may do this again in the future.
