Kiwanis Club of Newnan

Kiwanis International and the Kiwanis Club of Newnan both have a very proud and interesting history. They are both something in which we, as Kiwanians or as members of the community, can take special pride. We hope this tells you a little more about Kiwanis than you know already.

Believe it or not, Kiwanis started as a “for profit” private enterprise. This fraternal order of business and professional men’s original purpose was to promote trade among its members. It was the brainchild of an intense and bespectacled man from Detroit, Michigan named Allen Browne. The first Kiwanian to join was Joseph Prance. He paid $5 to Allen Browne to join what was then known as the Supreme Lodge Benevolent Order of Brothers in August of 1914.
