Jefferson Elementary School

Today Jefferson Elementary Schools employs approximately sixty-five staff members and serves the educational needs of over 510 students in grades 1, 3 & 4. Educational services include: administrative service, custodial service, food service, health service, learning center/computer lab, occupational theraphy, physical therapy, school psychology, hearing therapy, school social work, speech and language therapy, physical education, music education, bilingual education, special education (both LD resource and LD self-contained), Title 1 (both math and reading), reading improvement, first grade, third grade, and fourth grade. In the spring of 2001, the building was wired for Internet access and cable television access. There are thirty networked computers in the computer lab and at least one networked computer in each classroom. 

In the fall of 1953, Board of Education President Peter Breen, Superintendent Floyd King, and Principal David Frederick presided over the opening of Jefferson Grade School. At the time, Jefferson School housed four sections of third grade, Six sections of fourth grade, six sections of fifth grade, and two sections of special education. Rooms 14 through 16 were added in 1993 and rooms 17 through 27 were added in 1995, which increased the school's size to 53,000 square feet. The facility now includes classrooms, offices, a music room, a gymnasium/stage, a learning center/computer lab, and a cafeteria/kitchen.
