History

In 1996, Rudy was attending a Dance in Austin at The Senior Activity Center with one of his students. Karen was at the same Dance with her mother. Karen asked her mother “If that Dance Teacher Guy is here tonight, I want to dance with him.” So Karen’s mother asked Rudy if he would dance with her daughter and he did ! It just so happened that the song was “In The Mood.” That was the beginning.

Rudy has been teaching in Austin since 1992 as well as the Copperas Cove & Temple area since 1996. So we decided to look in Temple for a building to rent in order to have a dance once a month as we were doing in Austin. As we walked around downtown Temple we found one building with a “For Sale by Owner” sign in the window. Intrigued we walked in to have a look. We were thrilled when we saw that is was all open space. 6600 Square feet of open space! We were told the floor (under the carpet, 1970 avocado green shag), was all hardwood. We toured the upstairs, another 6600 square feet - what a great space to renovate for our home! It did not take us long to decide this would make a great ballroom and we could live upstairs. So we bought the building!

After all the paperwork was completed, renovations were started in April 1999. Working 7 days a week for 7 months we opened the ballroom on November 20, 1999.
