History

Harvest Oaks Baptist Church is a reality born out of a vision given to Jay Gibson for the need for a church to reach out to the ever growing population of Allen. As well as to some of the surrounding communities such as Wylie, Murphy, Parker, and Lucas. An area east of Highway 75 in the southern part of Collin County, Texas.

Jay had been filling in for several churches without a pastor during
2000-2001. In fact, several of them asked that he accept their invitation to be their pastor. Jay humbly thanked them for their invitations, but for some reason felt God was leading he and his ministry elsewhere and did not know where or why.

In November of 2001, Jay began to hear God's calling to begin a new church in the North Dallas area. From that day until February of 2002, Jay continued to wrestle with God about his calling. Just as Moses wrestled with his own lack of ability and knowledge to do the work, so did Jay.

In February of 2002, Jay listened to a message titled "Wrestling with God". It was a message that tugged at his heart strings to give into God. Later that night while walking alone praying and seeking God's will, Jay began to wrestle with God one last time saying "I can't do it, God!" He then came to the realization that if he wanted to truly give God glory in his life in a powerful way, he had to do something that he "couldn't do", but that God "could"! So he sat down on a bench there and prayed and gave in to God's vision for him and his ministry to begin a new church in the North Dallas area.

From there God led Jay and Ashlee to several families to have over to their house in Allen, Texas to discuss this vision God had given them to carry out. After prayer and listening to the Holy Spirit, Jay and Ashlee began this new church as a once a week Bible Study in their home. Then after much prayer, four families committed themselves to become a part of this family to move forward with this vision!

On August 17, 2003 the group chose the name Harvest Oaks Baptist Church. They also set aside September 7, 2003 to be their first service.
That service was held in the home of the church's first (and current) pastor and wife (Jay and Ashlee Gibson
