Harris Hill Volunteer Fire Company

8630 Main Street
716-632-1199

To raise operating funds, the new Fire Company held "Smoker" parties every few months. The parties resembled a Monte Carlo event. The signing of the Fire Prevention contract with the Town of Clarence in 1941 eased financial worries. The Town of Clarence paid based on the assessed valuation of all homes in the district.

Harris Hill got its first loan from the Bank of Williamsville. They borrowed money to buy a Federal Fire Siren which they had installed on top of Metz's Garage at the corner of Main Street and Harris Hill Road. One blast of the siren indicated a meeting. Two blasts identified a drill, and a third blast meant a fire!

The protection district boundries are as follows: starting at the northeast corner of Wherle Drive and Transit Road in Clarence, northbound on Transit Road to Griener Road, then travel eastbound on Griener Road to Old Goodrich Road, then southbound on Old Goodrich Road to Goodrich Road, then again southbound on Goodrich Road to Main Street, then eastbound on Main Street to Gunville Road, then souhtbound on Gunville Road to Wherle Drive, then westbound to Transit Road to the starting point.

The Company provides fire protection, rescue and emergency medical service to the town of Clarence area. We also support a mutial aid agreement with the surroundings communities of Amherst, Akron, Clarence, Lancaster and Newstead.

The Harris Hill Fire Company Facility is host to many community activities throughout the year. The Clarence Recreation Department, local Boy and Girl Scouts as well as Clarence High School have been known use our facility.
