About Us:

Grove City Medical Center is the result of the merger of two community hospitals: Bashline Memorial Hospital and Grove City Hospital. Back in the 1970s, both hospitals were struggling to stay afloat, with a dwindling population and the introduction of managed care into the system of payment for healthcare services. Even though the merger made sense from a business standpoint, there were philosophical differences to be considered, since each hospital practiced a different approach to medicine. Bashline Memorial Hospital was home to osteopathic physicians; those at Grove City Hospital were trained in allopathic, or “Western” medicine.

Eventually, the leadership of both organizations came to an agreement, and in 1978, United Community Hospital was created, its name symbolizing the union of the two original hospitals. The current building was erected in 1981 then underwent a $5 million expansion just 12 years later, adding 36,000 square feet and renovating two existing areas: Medical Imaging and the Emergency Department.

Through the years, the hospital continued to respond to the needs of the community by adding new services, enhancing existing ones and bringing healthcare to those who need it. The hospital operates one outpatient care center in Slippery Rock, as well as five lab draw sites located in Harrisville, Grove City and Mercer.

In 2005, leadership believed that the hospital had outgrown its name, and the following year it was renamed Grove City Medical Center, which more aptly described the organization for the depth and breadth of services it provides to the community.
