The school opened in the fall of 1902 with W. H. Dickey serving as the Superintendent.  School Board Members included R. B. Gooch, K. C. Cox, and H. C. Maxwell. In June of 1939 a new building was near completion.  It was built by the WPA program.  It is the current building which is located on Sixth Street.  It has undergone many changes and has continuously been improved, but is still standing strong after 60 years.  It has grown to include more classrooms, two gymnasiums, a wood shop, an agriculture education building, a home economics building, a Kindergarten building, a separate primary elementary building, a softball and baseball fields.
