Our Mission:

The Lord has blessed us over the years with many families and individuals who have taken part with us in the ministry of the church. We rejoice in a strong WIC ministry a committed Missions focus and a family orientation which encompasses all.

Most of all we rejoice in the privilege of spiritual worship afforded us each week. Our Mission Statement indicates our commitment to personal and corporate worship:

"To proclaim the infallible word of God, seek to bring our lives into conformity with Christ and worship the triune God so that Christ may have preeminence in all things."

History:

Grace Presbyterian Church was originally founded as a Sunday School outpost of First Presbyterian Church in 1910. It prospered under the leadership of the elders of First Church until it was organized as Power Memorial Presbyterian Church on July 13, 1924. Located on South President Street, it ministered to what was then South Jackson. Under the greatly loved leadership of Rev. William A. Hall the church knew God's great blessing.

As South Jackson has moved farther south, the church has too. It moved in the early 1950's to Oakmont Street where the church was served by Rev. Henry Erion and by student supply preachers. In 1977, Power Memorial moved to the area near Willowood subdivision in Jackson. The name was changed to Willowood Presbyterian Church and we grew under the leadership of Rev. Al Herrington until 1983. Rev. Warren Potts served as supply until Rev. Roger Collins came in 1984. Desiring to be considered more than a neighborhood church and have a broader outreach we changed our name once more and became known as Grace Presbyterian Church. A day care center provided regular ministry to many neighbors within our community from 1986 - 2000.

Attempts to reach the community around our facility led us to set our sights on the growing Byram community. Impressed by its emerging sense of community and indefatigable spirit and we purchased five acres in the middle of town in May of 2002. Pear Orchard Presbyterian Church donated four buildings for the moving. The physical labor of our membership began in earnest on August 17, 2002. No sooner had the roofs been removed in order to get under overpasses when two tropical storms swept through this area. The whole dedicated church family persevered, investing hours of time and untiring labor. Morning worship services were transferred to Byram in January 2003 with all of our services in our new facility by July 2003. Dedication followed with a great gathering of friends in October of the same year.

Through the financial sacrifice of our people and the generosity of many area churches and Mississippi Valley Presbytery, Grace is situated in a growing community with a very functional facility. We look forward to years of worship and service sustained by the sovereign power of God devoted to the declaration of the doctrines of grace. We desire to impact our community as a pillar of truth and a witness to the glory of God in Jesus Christ.
