MISSION STATEMENT

The GCED Office will strive to attract new industries and business to Goliad County to help increase the local tax base and labor force, to pursue new housing developments and promote Heritage Tourism. Our mission is to further the economic growth and development of Goliad Co. while preserving the integrity of our rich heritage.

About Us:

The Goliad County Historical Commission was organized in 1955 by Goliad County Judge Linton Benge. The GCHC operates under the bylaws and organizational rules as mandated by the Texas Historical Commission. Members are appointed by the Goliad County Commissioners Court. Officers are elected by the members.

The purposes of the Goliad County Historical Commission include creating awareness and appreciation of historic preservation, assisting in research and preparation of applications for Official Texas Historical Markers, initiation and planning of local history programs and presentations, and maintaining and operating the Goliad Markethouse Museum. The Goliad County Historical Commission also coordinates the annual Christmas in Goliad event.

The Goliad County Historical Commission holds regular meetings on the second Monday of each month. Meetings are open to the public.
