Gladwyne Presbyterian Church

1321 Beaumont Drive
610-649-2235

Incorporated in 1874 as the First Presbyterian Church of Lower Merion, our church has been an important cornerstone and religious center in the village of Merion Square, now known as Gladwyne. The first sanctuary, built in 1877, served us well until the post-World War II period. We have worshipped in our present home since 1958.

This sanctuary has become special to all of us. It is a safe place where, in confusing and disruptive times, we can get our bearings, clarify our issues, learn how to live with creativity, joy and love. Here we are able to balance the two energies of the spiritual life: the Inward Journey – touching the heart of Christ within, through prayer and scripture reading – and the Outward Journey – hearing our call to love and serve, pouring out our lives as Christ did for others.

Over the years, our Outward Journey has taken us to other countries (Mexico, Haiti and the Caribbean), where we have come to understand and respond to the unique needs of these our neighbors. Locally, we have looked beyond the Main Line to discern hurting communities in Chester and North and West Philadelphia. We have had continuing identification with Trevor's Campaign, Habitat for Humanity, and in providing financial assistance and personal involvement with inner city students in Philadelphia.
