History
On March 12, 1912, Juliette Gordon Low held the first Girl Scout meeting. In 1913, she helped write the first Girl Scout handbook. Along with information on first aid, camping and housekeeping, it also had instructions for how to stop a runaway horse and how to tie up a burglar with eight inches if cord.

In 1927, Juliette died. She was 66 years old. At that time there were nearly 140,000 Girl Scouts. Today, there are more than two and half million girl members.
