Furry Elementary School

310 Douglas Drive
419-625-4352

Furry Elementary is a wonderful building that is located within the outstanding community of Perkins, Ohio. Perkins is 5 miles off of Lake Erie and 10 minutes from the famous Cedar Point Amusement Park. Furry has approximately 400 students in grades K-2.

Furry school was built in 1956. The land was originally owned by the Didion family and the building is now located on the corner of Didion and Douglas Drive. It was named after Ray Furry for his many dedicated years to Perkins Schools. He was principal and head teacher at the four room school house that began in the Perkins Schools in the early 1920’s. Mr. Furry retired in 1957 and his portrait still hangs proudly in the lobby of Furry.

There were additions to Furry Elementary in 1964 and 1971. The addition in 1964 consisted of classrooms being added to the back of the building. This wing currently includes five first grade classrooms, two kindergarten classrooms, Title One, and the Speech classroom. The addition in 1971 included “the pods” area that is currently three county classrooms.
