About Us:

The Food Farm is a certified organic farm located in Wrenshall, Minnesota, 30 minutes south of Duluth. The farm offers summer, winter, preserving, poultry and egg shares, enabling our members to receive fresh local food most of the year.   Our weekly summer shares are delivered to 13 locations in Duluth, Superior, Cloquet, Esko, and Wrenshall.   Some of our produce is also available at the Whole Foods Co-op, Duluth Grill and Chester Creek Cafe.

At the Food Farm our passion is providing high quality food for our CSA members, a sustainable livelihood for our farmers, while improving the productive capacity of our land.  This is possible by cooperating with the natural and human communities to which we belong, and unleashing the creative power of human imagination.

The farm is owned by Janaki Fisher-Merritt and Annie Dugan, and operated by Janaki, John and Jane Fisher-Merritt and Dave Hanlon. Each year we have two hard-working interns working with us and we also depend on a great network of member-volunteers to get all the work done.

All of our vegetables are certified organic by MOSA, and grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and herbicides.  The practice of organic agriculture nurtures the farm as a natural organism.  The goal is to establish and maintain an optimal balance of animal, plant and human activity in a self-sustaining system.  Wholesome and delicious food is a product of these practices. Our poultry (chickens, turkeys and eggs) are not certified organic. We choose not to certify because local sources of certified grain are unreliable. The feed we use is generally certified transitional to organic and milled near St. Cloud, MN. Transitional feed contains grain that is grown to meet organic standards but the land itself is in a transition period. When transitional feed is not available, we use certified organic feed from Wisconsin. We do not use feed with GMOs, hormones, or antibiotics.
