First Presbyterian Church Milan

History, Organization and Faith of our Church:

The First Presbyterian Church of Milan was organized in 1845, near the town of Camden Mills, before the establishment of the Village of Milan. Elder William Dickson found a need for decent, centralized worship in this area and petitioned the Presbytery for the right to organize the congregation. The church will soon celebrate its 175th anniversary in 12 years, and is proud of its current building, completed in 1967.

First Presbyterian Church is a local congregation of the Presbyterian Church (USA), a member of the Presbytery of Great Rivers, and the Synod of Lincoln Trails. We have about 175 members currently who work hard in our dedication to the ministry and mission of our Lord Jesus Christ. At First Presbyterian Church, we believe that with God's help and guidance, we can make this world a better place for all people. Our Session of twelve elders plus the clerk, are the administrators of the Church Program and the leaders of the congregation.

At First Presbyterian Church we organize our faith in God through our Lord Jesus Christ. We pattern our faith life and our personal relationships according to the five ethics that Jesus Christ lived and taught. These ethics are: Love, Forgiveness, Tolerance, Compassion, and Charity. In all our activity and fellowship, we remember the meaning of Jesus¹ ethics and the importance that they play in our own and in every human life.

In our dedication to the human rights and dignity of all persons, we affirm the sanctity of creation, advocacy for children, and our respect for all religions. We welcome and encourage all persons to worship with us; however, we affirm "God alone is Lord of the Conscience." Church membership is open to any baptized person who professes faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and faith in our community.
