The mission of Elmwood is to provide each student a warm educational environment that teaches the students skills to become a productive individual.

Elmwood School is the second largest elementary school in the Peru Community School Corporation. It was built in 1954 to replace an earlier Elmwood School and has had two additions to the original building. The latest remodeling in 1990 enlarged the school and added additional classrooms, restrooms, and a library to the existing structure.

Elmwood School offers a variety of classes for children from preschool through fourth grade. Elmwood School includes the Special Education Preschool, Extended Day Kindergarten, Kindergarten through Grade Four. Elmwood is also the home of the Moderately Mentally Handicapped
classroom of multi-aged students from Kindergarten to Sixth Grade.

Servicing such a highly diversified community of learners involves the efforts of an extremely professional and caring staff. Currently there are 27 certified and 21 non-certified staff members. Approximately 400 students attend Elmwood School.
