Our History:
From a very meager beginning, known as the Wolf Creek United Baptist Church,First Baptist Church was organized October 30, 1850. The church has been a continuous witness to Eldorado and the outlying communities. It was organized by Elder Thomas M. Vance, Timothy Hamilton and Adam Vinson. It immediately adopted the New Hampshire Declaration of Faith and at the earliest opportunity, joined the Franklin Baptist Association. Elder Vance became its first Pastor, and the church met in the Wolf Creek meeting house. In 1858, Eldorado was plated as a town and in December 1862, the church decided to move to town.

A building was erected on the northeast corner of Walnut Street and was named the First Baptist Church of Eldorado. The first church building burned around 1882. In 1886 the second building was erected and valued at $1,200. It had a membership of 148 people. This structure was also consumed by fire in 1898. The third building was then erected on the present property and valued at $2,500. It served the people with continual remodeling and additions. Fire once again struck First Baptist Church in 1942, leaving the wooden structure in ashes and its members with a desire to build again for the Glory of God. In February of 1948, a building consisting of what is now the older portion of our church was erected. Our present auditorium and educational facility was added and dedicated in November of 1968. In the fall of 1995 another addition was constructed and added to the church. It houses the pastor and the secretary, as well as an enormous fellowship hall, kitchen facility and several Sunday school classrooms.

First Baptist Church is parent to two mission churches in Eldorado: College Heights and Scott Street Baptist Churches.
